Cooling Fan on when engine is cold?
« on: November 16, 2013, 04:17:49 pm »
Hi there,

My engine cooling fan goes on and off even when the engine is stone cold, when the fan comes on it stays on for maybe 15 seconds spinning at a very high speed then turns off again for a few minutes.

Any ideas why this is?

That be the air con fan more then likely mate. Turn of your heaters fan in car and see if it still does it

With the aircon off (ECON mode on) the fan still does this

Mine does as well. it's the air con fan apparently. Sure one of the Mk5 gods will comment soon lol

If your A/C is switched off (A/C light off in later cars / ECON light on in earlier cars) then none of your radiator fans should be running when the engine is cold.

I believe the mk5 is prone to the coolant temperature sensor failing, which may fool the system into bringing the fan on, possibly this is your problem?
