MK5 to MK5 GTI REPLICA BUILD
« on: November 24, 2013, 02:01:02 am »
Hi guys. I recently got Black VW GOLF MK5 (2007) 1.9TDi and want to make it look like GTi. Engine is in perfect condition so far so I won't be spending on that for now. I am planning to stick to this car for a longer bit of time so want to feel great driving it. BTW, I'm a absolute beginner, this car is my second one (before I had Seicento Young 0.9 petrol for 6 months).
I'm quite tired of looking for the whole kit and the right parts, some of them are quite difficult to get. Could you guys help me finding them please? Maybe some of you have it/know someone who have it for sale
What I want to do is:

1. Front grill full kit w/ VW badge + fog lights (found on ebay, not sure if it's safe to buy such thing from ebay)
2. Front bumper
3. Side skirts+adapters+screws+support strips(?) (I found the parts numbers for those and instructions how to instal them) 1K3853860B9B9 and 1K3853859B9B9 + 1K0853493 + N10354602 + 1K0853543 and 1K0853544
4. Rear bumper w/exhaust hole in the middle
5. Rear spoiler (black or carbon)
6. GTi double exhaust (not sure which one yet)
7. 17"/18" alloys (got few in mind)
8. Door sills protectors (carbon/chrome/brushed alu) (found on ebay)
9. Rear bumper protector (carbon/chrome/brushed alu) (found on ebay)
10. GTi Front smoke lights or other (found on ebay)
11. GTi Rear lights or other (found on ebay)
12. GTi plate holder (found on ebay)
13. Carbon mirror covers (found some on ebay)
14. Front carbon spoiler splitter

Also I want to work on interior a bit. Love carbon look, but not too much of course. I am planning to get:

1. RNS 510 (found on ebay)
2. R-line/ GTi multifunction steering wheel (leather w/ red stitching) (found abroad)
3. Gear gaiter + handbrake gaiter (both leather w/ red stitching) (found on ebay)
4. Carbon dashboard trims (extremely difficult to find)
5. Carbon air vents (found on ebay, but it's real carbon which is very expensive, probably will go for carbon-look plastic)
6. Carbon centre dash trim (found on ebay, same problem, very expensive)
7. Carbon door trims (found on ebay)
8. Carbon door handles (inside and outside)
9. Carbon ashtray trim
10. Armrest (leather w/ red stitching)
11. Bucket seats (leather w/ red stitching) (more of a wish as they are very expensive)
12. Interior soundproofing
13. R-line pedal covers
14. Chrome clock surround trims
15. Gear knob w/ LED light (found some on ebay but not really convicted about the quality and style)
16. Chrome Switch Full Set for 4 doors (found abroad)

Quite a lot of staff, but I'll try to finish my build by the end of 2014. Later on I will post all the items I could think of for now that I want to find. Unfortunately they won't upload in one post so I will have to list them in 3 posts :/

I hope some of you have an idea where I could find these items. I would be very very thankful for any help from you.

I think those rear lights are equally awesome to original GTi ones.

I fell in love with this wheel (clocks are great as well, not sure what car are those from):

But it would be nice to see such fat stitching on the wheel above :D

Very nice gaiter and gear knob:

Amazing door trims, but couldn't find ones:

Take a closer look at the dashboard trims. This is Passat B6, but the combination of carbon and brushed aluminium is what I would love to see in Golf:

Love it:

Fantastic carbon bended splitter, I wish I could find one!!!

EDIT: I found one here: https://www.rpiequipped.com/store/index.php?cPath=348_623_214

Front bumper spoilers, all of them are very nice:

Rear carbon difussor I am looking for:

Bucket seats I was loooking for:

The ones from Scirocco III are amazing too:

Carbon-like plastic trims. I would go for those if I could find them:

Mirrors shield guards:

This badge is really nice too:

I guess that's it for now. Any help hugely appreciated.

Get your interior items hydro dipped in carbon effect or skin them in actual carbon or wrap them in carbon effect vinyl.

As for your steering wheel, you could always get that retrimmed into whatever design and colours you like.

Im not a fan pf those rear lights though, they make me want to cry!

How deep are your pockets?

You've got a real clash of taste and tack going on here in my opinion bud.

Mirror covers, the gaitor youve linked & the rear lights are a massive no go for me pal... will end up looking like youve crashed your car into halfords!

My advice would be not to scrimp and save on certain mods so you can do more to your car - A few quality mods will make your car look far better than a lot of less expensive mods.

As above.

Why not buy a GTI in the first place, looks like you can afford one as your going to spank ££££ on that lot.

Love your enthusiasm but some of that stuff you've linked to is SHOCKING!

For good quality C/F look at OSIR, end off. Contact the ttshop.com for that as they're the UK distributor for OSIR.  Personally (as mentioned) I'd remove all the parts you'd like in C/F and get them Hydro dipped (also called Water Transfer Printing) in a C/F effect, looks as good and at a fraction of the cost. Don't go overboard and C/F your whole car, it will look pants.

The rear end (and obviously the difusser and Zorst) is from a Mk5 R32. The C/F difusser is from OSIR, as is the C/F Front splitter. Front splitter, look at getting an Editoin30 or Votex splitter

The lights are another level of chav all together, the worst I've ever seen. Just get some R32/Eddy clusters or VALEO units.

ETTO and all that though.

Some of the staff I just posted because I like it, but not gonna buy it :) I like the lights, but the real GTi ones are just that little bit nicer. As for difussor, I think I will quit. I thought it's from GTi, but if it's not, then there is no point of going with two different body kits which would look ridiculous.
I will defend my gaitor though :) I simply love it.
Thank you for your help guys!!! Hope to get more advice on that.

some of that stuff you've linked to is SHOCKING!

Did you mean the lights? Or something else too? Point out please. I'm open to suggestions :)

You've got a real clash of taste and tack going on here in my opinion bud.

Can you explain? I (and not only) think I got fairly good taste :) Not all that staff gonna go into my car though. It's always good to have someone that can show you went too far maybe, so thanks for that dude :)

My advice would be not to scrimp and save on certain mods so you can do more to your car - A few quality mods will make your car look far better than a lot of less expensive mods.

Yep I was thinking about it too. Obviously what I just posted is far too much and as I said some of the stuff I like but never gonna buy it. But the absolute MUST HAVE for me is a RNS 510, steering wheel, GTi front and side skirts, C/F trims inside and alloys. Those are the things I am crazy about. I should fit in £1500, which isn't that much I guess.

I would agree that the majority of the stuff youve posted is tasteful, - seats for example; not a single forum member on here would turn them down!

Most people tend to stick to the OEM theme(ish) on Mk5's generally (which proves VW done it right 1st time I guess) with some improvements they can be made to look very nice indeed but I definately think the base shouldnt be altered to much.

Definately each to their own & all that it is your car after all, but for heavens sake dont put M3 style mirrors on it! ;)

hahaha you're probably right. I never saw these mirrors on a car in real life so they might look nice by them own but awful once it's in place :)
OEM parts are quite expensive, aren't they? Do you know good websites/shops I could get OEM staff?
Also, I'm not sure about the door switch set (Chrome Switch Set: http://www.bold-sport.com/store/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=83). It's for Passat B6, but would it fit (or at least some of the buttons) to my GOLF?
Thank you very much for advice.

I was thinking about good audio system too. VW is not bad, but it would be cool to tweak it a bit. I think I will just leave the exterior for now and get RNS-510, steering wheel, trims and audio done.
Any suggestions? I'm searching through the AUDIO section right now.

Oh yeah, I am wondering if Tiguan's clocks would fit in Golf mk5? Those are so much better looking!
Another question. RNS 510 MFD3 this time: If I won't buy bluetooth module with it, am I still able to connect my iphone? I am trying to find some info on that... nothing so far.

I have a centre dash trim, including the piece around the heater controls (depending if you have celibate control or not) which I bought to do some wrapping on, and was planning on doing a black carbon fibre so keep an eye on the for sale section over the next week or so if interested  :happy2: certainly a fraction of the real carbon costs   :surprised:

I want celibate control in my golf Simon!!!!!! No seriously let me know how that goes, I've just done all my dash trims in c/f 4d vinyl and it looks pretty decent!

I've had all those dash trim bits (that I couldn't separate last week ) Hydro Dipped, also called Water Transfer Printing, looks awesome for fake C/F. £80 plus P+P just for the 2 dash trims pieces around the top vents and Climatronic unit and around another £150 for all the other bits, including all trims.

Only problem I've found with C/F vinyl (and I've had it all over my cars ) is that it looks like vinyl and nothing like real C/F, cheap looking.
