New MOT law from feb 2014 to test is DPF filter has been removed
« on: December 05, 2013, 11:04:45 am »
Not a pressing issue for the GTI i know (although will this impact the pre cat removal?) but for those running a TDI like I used to that remove the DPF this could be a pain.

I was planning on knocking the one out of the wifes car soon, oh well, looks like I need to leave a tin of Quality Street with my key when it goes in for MOT then.

Won't this just affect aftermarket delete pipes really?

Afaik; Re GTI pre-cat, is only a requirement on the continent for cold starting emission reasons - they'd have to physically remove the downpipe to check too... very much doubt they'll add that to the MOT.

I'm told that the test will be a visual inspection only, so you could gut the insides out but retain the filter......although some are easier than others!

Doesn't exactly matter does it.. if you do it smart you replace the ENTIRE exhaust system and you can then change it over in an hour at home..
Won't change anything, just goes to show our Government are c*cks. "illegal for road use" yeah do one pal  :fighting2:

And considering diesels aren't tested for CO2 emissions I don't know how they can say this magically saves the plannet
The carbon and soot buildup has to go somewhere - Normally over the rolling hills on the m6, the total c02 output of the car is still the same.

Was gonna suggest for those who had the guts removed and then welded back together should be ok? Didnt think Mr MOT man can go taking parts off? I get a advisory for having a under tray on that hides parts. But it isnt a biggie to worry too much about. They keep on saying about Management lights etc will come into force, they havent yet...last time i checked

You could just cut it along the top where the inspector wouldn't see it, they aren't allowed to remove parts to check. Then again a cloud of smoke out the back and dirty tailpipe would be a dead giveaway that the DPF would be removed

One more reason not to own a Diesel?

Anyone who just removed the filter will probably be ok with current Smoke limits. A straight through might be a problem.

The EA288 engine contains an SCR system with the DPF so at some point Nox will possibly be measured at the MOT too.

Bit of information guys as we do this.

At the moment it will be a visual check, we take the DPFs off and gut the insides and then remap the vehicle. If you have a dpf removal pipe then yes it could be an issue but just gutting out the insides will be fine. I can see eventually it may become part of the MOT but not at the moment
