Echo/ Grinding (sort of) noise coming from the engine.
« on: September 17, 2009, 05:29:07 pm »
Basically chaps I've got in the car at work today, turner it over and something didn't sound right. There was a noticeable echoing/ grinding noise coming from the engine, its done it every time its been turned over and is quite pronounced at lower revs, I've not given it any beans as I'm worried I'll duff something up. I've had the bonnet open and it sounds as though it’s coming from the back of the engine.

There are no fault codes etc, does anyone have any rough idea of what it could be? It'd be about my luck with this car that it'd happen the day the warranty expired.

Many thanks in advance.

The revs also seem to fall quite staggered, for example a slight hold then drop, slight hold etc. Its not a lot but its certainly behaving different.

Echo and grinding are two very different noises... does it sound a bit like an owl??

The turbo is up back.
Sideways yo!

Yeah sounds very similar to that, It seems go be boosting alright and still seems to have similar levels of pull, also when if you fluter the throtle is sounds seriously lumpy and rough winding back to idle.

Well, my old A3 used to sound like an owl and did so for 40k with no issues.

Could be the turbo, more likely something related to it. Loose/split hose?
Sideways yo!
