Clutch stuck?
« on: December 24, 2013, 08:23:01 am »
Hi all,

I went to start my car this morning and had no problems. Then I've gone to put it in gear and it wouldn't go in, so I turned it off and tried to put it in gear with the car off. Went in and out no problem but when I went to start it, it was like the clutch was out and the car tried to drive off. So, turned it off and now it wont come out gear without rocking the car.

I've spoke to my old man who thinks it could be the cable? Any other suggestions?

Worth an AA call?

Any helps appreciated guys!  :happy2:

Slave or master cylinder, or could be broken fingers on pressure plate!

So got a quote for a whole new clutch from VW as a worst case scenario....

Listers Stratford upon Avon wanted £1600 for a new clutch and flywheel!!! Ridiculous, they said they wouldn't charge any extra for labour of the flywheel, but the flywheel was nearly £600 and they couldn't even tell me the manufacturer who produced it!!! Its less than half that on ECP for a Sachs one. Think I'll be trying to source a local garage to have a look.

£120p/h just to investigate, no thanks!

Quote of the phone call "well, the GTI flywheel is very expensive" pretty sure its the same spec as my old tdi! Safe to say I wont be going there.

I Think its the slave cylinder though, still a fair few hours labour non the less!

Thanks for the insight though Xjay, much appreciated.
