Yes the EGR can be switched off on the Mercedes Diseasel.
No i won't be removing the DPF. With the MOT regs changing all the time and the current ones checking DPF's it's safer to just leave it on and saves me a few quid.
The engine actually sounds quite nice on WOT for a wood burner

Makes sense - that's my concern too with DPF Del. The legality and insurance situation. Not sure if gutting the insides and leaving the box as it is leaves you any better off, in theory(?). The sound, performance and economy gains from doing it are mega tempting
6pot diesels generally sound very smooth. I'd pay good cash to have the 3.0 V6 245ps VAG engine in my A3
