Getting the most from your turbo
« on: December 17, 2013, 07:16:39 pm »
I having a dilemma as wether to go ko4 or just get the most out of my k03 gti

I already have:
Forge twintake
Blueflame tbe with 2'75 sports cat
Currently on custom map from r-tech 265bhp

Will be getting an S3 intercooler next year.

Is it worth going the whole k04 route or can you just bolt on the turbo and injectors?
Would hpfp benefit if my car with either turbo on?
What else would help to get the most out of a ko3?

I dont want buy all these mods and for someone to say if you just bolt on a k04 you will have so much more power  :rolleye:

Any help is much appreciated

If your not satisfied wit the 265 you currently have from the K03, then I doubt you'll be impressed with the gains it yet has to offer... from what I've read they are pretty much all done by 280; where as the K04 is just getting started Stage 1 onwards.

I'd also consider, what it would cost you to strip back to standard and buy an Edition 30 / Pirelli, rather than K04 upgrade... worth doing the numbers. :happy2:

So by the time i add intercooler and take a trip to r-tech that will prob be about it for turbo then  :sad1:

I have thought about stripping but have added brakes, xenons, exhaust, coilovers and other bits and would be costly to swap them over. Or to even find another car with the right spec.

YOu could tae a stock GTI then install a K04 turbo, K04 Injectors and DV relocation, add a remap and basically make it work just like a Stage 1 Ed30 with 280-300Hp.  It probably would have cost less than what your current stage 2 setup has as well!!

With what you have already you basically have enough to run a stage 2 setup.  RTec would be able to write software for your current mods in tandem with the K04 with no issues.  Expect the same outputs as a stage 2 Ed30

K03 injectors will flow 300-310bhp so you could leave the stock ones in place for that level of power and save a wad of dollar  :happy2:

I had a std K03 (but with all the upgraded intercooler/hpfp/twintake/exhaust etc...) I went straight to a K04 with stage 3, not been rr yet but I'm expecting around 300-350 and i'm very glad I did it :happy2:, all my parts have been second hand so I have saved a few quid here and there.

Go for it

To get the most from a K03 you do need to upgrade the HPFP. You will also need to have a tune for the HPFP. So, you should consider the HPFP regardless.
A K04 without injectors with the proper tuning will give you more power than a K03 at its limits if the HPFP is upgraded for both. There is a guy here in town that installed the Frankenturbo F23T and kept his oem K03 injectors, and with WMI and a HPFP...he just dyno'd 350 wheel HP = approx. 380bhp. I haven't dyno'd my '07 yet with its new DM K04+ tune, but I'm certain it has much more power now. Realistically, a maxed out K03 will likely give you 25 more hp than you have now. You can expect about 285 to 290bhp.

So a possibility is i can get a k04 and upgrade the hpfp and get it remapped and will produce more than a k03 with less stress on the turbo? Could i add injectors plus other things later on when funds allow.

Prob a silly question but what is a beach buggy ko3 hybrid? Stronger than a ko3 but not as much as a ko4? :ashamed:

Yes, you can run a K04 and hpfp without injectors and then tune later for injectors as they go in.

I spoke with Alex @ AKS regarding the beachbuggy hybrid. For the money definitely worth a shout and is something I'm personally going to look into  :happy2:
