Hi All

Just a post to say thanks to Mat ED30 and his neighbour.

Been so paranoid about my car, only had it for an eventful 3 weeks (see other posts)...

I was sure that I could hear a wheel bearing "rumble" but didn't know for sure as there are so many noises.

Well a quick trip over to Halifax to see Mat and a quick(ish) test drive later, to realise tyre pressure were way to high.  I was using the pressures as stated on the filler cap 2.4 bar front & rear, but dropping to 32psi has improved the feel of the car and the noise has gone (I think).  May try a little less 30psi next time I fill up.

Only problem now is the bloody Dunlop tyres.  They all have good tread so feel a bit guilty about binning them (and the wife would kill me).

Still on the look out for some genuine Monza II (hint hint) (any condition hint hint) as in Mat's opinion this & new tyres will sort out the rest of my road noise issues.

So thanks again to Mat and this forum.  Hope I can return the favour to another member sometime soon.
No Golf anymore.
Enjoyed the last five years of ownership of Mk5 & 6 GTIs.
Plus an excellent forum for knowledge and new ways to deplete the bank account.
Thank You Everyone.

When my car went to the stealers and I drove it back, it felt sluggish, horrible to drive and seemed to need to use more fuel. Turns out they had set the tyre pressures to 30psi all round. It was crap. Returned it to the recommended pressures of 37psi and it became light and agile again.

As for the tyres, you don't have to bin them but keep them to one side and use them if you have a puncture, or as a stop gap between tyre changes.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

Car had just short of 40 in them and the road noise was pretty bad and that was on warmish tyres so after dropping a few psi out of them the noise had gone and the car drove better and I find 37psi too hard for 18s so I do mine to 34 up front. Have a play about with tyre pressure and see what is best and what drives best and gives good tyre wear

Your Noise you are complaining about will only disapear by replacing those god awful Dunlop Sportmax's.
Im now running 3.2 bar in mine, but the noise has got quieter with the more Pressure in the tyre. (I ran 32psi all round before and it was worse tbh.)

Get a New set of decent tyres, have a look on recent threads as to which one to go for.
Youve most proberly got steeping stone tread pattern on your dunlops (Uneven wear) as this causes the noisey ride.( even with half tread Remaining in my case) as Matt has recommended you to do  :happy2:

Ah, thanks!

That suprisingly high! I think I'm running 32psi all round on the Cupra and the road noise is minimal (running Vredestien Ultrac Sessanta's).

I might try a little more pressure to see how they feel. I can't say I've noticed the car not feeling lively in my hands though.  :driver:
