I have units similar to those (mine are from mylitco) and I paid £25 and they come with a years warranty -

I'm all for OEM but the MyLitco (or similar ones) are better, cost less than the OEM units themselves and don't need to buy wiring adaptors (at the same cost/slightly more!!!)  to make them work. £70-80 is silly money for number plate bulbs sorry...

In VCDS there is a setting to turn off the bulb out monitoring for certain lights (eg indicators, front dipped, front main etc). That may provide some ability to remove the bulb out but won't stop the error of them not lighting I believe. Worth a try anyway!

On the Mk6 byte 18 was different to that and didn't have the box to manually change the binary to one that is known to turn off bulb diagnosis

There was an option in byte 17 to enable PWM LED number plate bulbs but it made no difference :(

Most of the aftermarket LEDs look far from OEM in how bright they are.  To many, that makes them look tacky, cheap, 'boy racer' call it what you will.

The good thing is the thread tells anyone else looking to do this, both options are available; a bright white error free (and good value) or a more costly but factory fit, error free solution.

The cheaper, brighter (OEM look) are error free , not a hint of errors. Like you said, everyone to their own
