I'm very interested in getting an RNS510 fitted soon.

From reading all the posts about them it seems people pick them up 2nd hand off other members.
Is this the only way to get hold of them? or Can they be purchased brand new from VW?

You're looking at £2000 for a unit from VW.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

The A version cannot be updated to the newer firmware
Why not? There's a modified version that allows 38xx firmware to run on A/B/C units. I've got 3810 on my B unit.

The 'Modified' '3810_noru.iso' file only works on B/C units....it does NOT work on any A units and it will destroy A units possibly beyond repair requiring a replacement mainboad and/or radio board..... this is from personal experience...

(i was sold a 'C' version which turned out to be an 'A' version which i updated, it failed, destroyed the unit, 300quid later i now i have a H unit - lesson learnt!)

Have you informed Josi about this?
clicky - his thread on modified firmware. At least one person has stated they have used it on their A-version unit.

the unit had also previously failed a 2780 update which josi helped recover, his advice was to avoid the revision A units if possible...

mr_nitroz@centrum.cz

thats the email of Simon Nytra, the chap who repaired my RNS for me with brand new front panel, radio board, mainboard etc, updated to latest firmware and maps and shipped it back to me within 5 days... if you tell him 'Ali' referred you he'll give you a decent price, he also sells the Revision F/H units at around about 650-700Euro's which i believe also includes delivery

Surprised he hasn't mentioned this in his thread.

Thanks for the info.

I see a few guys on here can supply and fit them as well.

Are these units typically brand new? And where javelin they usually originate from?

Hi, looking into buying an RNS510 myself, is there a way that you can tell what the original version of the RNS is?

A friend of mine bought a unit which he was told was a version C, he updated the firmware, it was bricked and VW told us it was a version A.

Cheers
