amazing restoration

it is a classic and vw can improve with every new golf but there will only be one original

you would want to keep it in a garage to keep it perfect though, only drive it on sunny days

Really? I thought the welding in particular was sh*te. The prep is terrible, that'll all be coming through the paint in a few years.

As a usable car for now, ok, as an £8k keeper - not a chance in hell.
Sideways yo!

I thought the welding look iffy , but i don't know anything about it . I wouldn't pay 8k for it either nearer 6k , would you admit some of the litte bits he has done were quite good ?

If you thought the welding was dodgy why waste your time posting this if your not interested

Not overly impressed with the standard myself but its alot better than 90% of so called restored cars. lot of them out there especially the ones that think that wheeler dealers is a restoration program. Wouldnt pay that for it but thats just me.
Welding quality in my experiance is down to the machine, operator skills and material.

Its okay
I'm an ex coded welder (not welding currently) and them welds are okay for the job,if you had a flatter weld then that does mean more penetration but you need more heat less wire = no good on sheet metal as it'll distort, you do dip transfer which is very beady but it is well up to the job.

Agree. I wouldn't consider it a full restoration. Send the whole shell off for blasting (including the underside) and then is consider buying a Mk1 like that. The car for sale shouldn't be £8k in my opinion.

Great transformation still. And looks like a far more usable car than it was previously.

Hats off to anyone doing that amount of work!

But I agree that's not a keeper, I'd spend a lot more getting a better example to start with.
