This is fantastic! Excellent car mate, well done!

Quick question, when doing your R32 rear, did you replace the foam piece and the 2 brackets/supports? I note you didn't have them listed as parts so I assume not but have seen a guide that did replace them. I hope not though :)

Thanks!

Thanks for the kind words. I didn't do the R32 conversion myself, gave that up to the garage. However, they told me that it just bolts up to a standard rear bumper so you shouldn't need anything other than the parts I listed (I can only say that for owners of a GTI).

The guide you saw was from a USA forum and the foam piece is an American requirement so you'll be fine without it and yes you should use the bracket/supports, only a couple of quid from the dealers, not only makes the bumper more rigid due to it being held in place but also stops all sorts of road detritus from getting on the inside of the rear bumper.

As said, I never used that, but mine seems to sit fine on the bumper. Only thing I would suggest is if you're getting a cat-back system, go BCS as the Milltek one is very quiet (even the "louder" version) and also the back box "suitcase" sits well below the bumper and in plain sight of day. Given the money I'd go full BCS but sadly I just don't have the ability to stretch that far, what with wanting Audi TTRS front brakes, H&R anti roll bars and some new bumpers plus a re-spray this year (check post #2 for my 2015 plans!).

Great thanks for your help.

I already have a BCS GTI exhaust, however it's simply on it to change to the R32 style and have already queried this with Nigel. Love how well designed the BCS is, Milltek made a mistake in my eyes in terms of design of their MK5 R32 system. As you say it hanging down in being in clear view ruins it for me!

Yo man, love the work you've done on this!!  :notworthy: Similar setup to mine  :drinking: Seeing those R32 seats in yours has got me searching and added more to my to-do list!!

Just out of curiosity, are you planning on tracking it at all?

Thanks man, always happy with kind words. There are a set of R32 seats going on this forum as it stands, but personally I wish I'd gone for Cobras given how much I paid for these seats! But still, once I sort the OEM wiring out it'll be a different story. Track plans..? Well, it'd be rude not to add all these shiny bits and not test how good they really are...

I did see those seats, unfortunately mine is a 5 door and I believe the ones for sale are 3 door or looking for a 3 door trade something like that. Cobras do look swish but you can't beat the look of OEMish!! What wiring have you got to get done?

Excellent, glad to hear it on the track front!!!

The air bag sensor, because my stock GTI seats had air bags but these R32 ones don't I need to blank off the plug in my car's floor to fool the air bag module into thinking there's a complete circuit. I also need to extend the seat occupancy sensor wiring so it reaches my car's original loom. Then need to fault scan/clear to remove any error messages.

Thanks. In my eyes I see every stone chip, un-finished job, little niggley things so to me it's still way off where I want her to be, but kind words always welcome!

Finally managed to take my Golf out for a spin around Dartmoor this morning, didn't get to stay out long as the weather was due to turn bad around mid afternoon so just went to scout out the roads and see what they're like now I'm running Bilstein B14 coil overs. I also wanted to grab a picture of some wild Dartmoor ponies too, but sadly I got distracted by the driving experience.

I've toyed with the idea all year about whether to keep my Golf as it is so it's a half way house between daily driver and weekend toy, or to replace the daily duties with something more suited and turn this into an all out toy. But after today's drive I've realised keeping it almost as she is will be the way ahead for the foreseeable future.

The roads through Dartmoor, for those who haven't been lucky enough to visit the moors, are second only to the views along the way. Long, undulating roads with tight corners but in the weather I had today you can see the road ahead in places) for miles so over taking and cutting corners was the order of the day. Despite only running coil overs, the chassis handled everything I threw at it without a problem. My OEM mk6 R brakes coped with the punishment well too, really showing why investing just a few hundred pounds into them was one of the best ideas I've had so far.

After touring across Dartmoor and enjoying the views along the straighter roads, I came out onto the A38 and cruised back to Plymouth in complete comfort. The B14's transforms from an inspiring and confident suspension kit to a better than stock comfortable ride along the A roads. Also, the R32 buckets proved their worth today by holding my firmly in place while throwing it around corners and comforting me further along the A roads.

Today has been the first day in over a year (I think) that I've really been able to go out and enjoy my car fully for what I've modified it for. To be my ultimate driving machine. Didn't even get many pictures as I was having too much fun, but I did snap 2 just so it's not all text on this page of posts.

Provided the weather holds out next weekend I'll be going out with food to last the whole day and with a full battery on my SLR for many pictures out on the moors. Until then...

For the poll, here are the two options for front end designs.

Option One:

A carbon fibre grill (OSIR or Seibon), Edition 30 splitter (red with black lower centre section) and gloss fog grills. This is the best example I can get from the internet;

Option Two:

An SRS Tec front bumper, replica of the mk6 Golf R but minus the daytime running LED lights as they add about £300 to the price!

This poll will run till around summer time when I begin sourcing and prep'ing parts for the overhaul. :happy2:
