So as many people are now aware, the GTI is up for sale. But it needed a good clean before I could seriously advertise it for sale, so today I spent a good 3 hours giving it some well needed love. The results are quite good considering I was only giving it a "quick" detailing:

Obligatory water beading shot:

So why have I decided to sell my pride and joy? Simply, this:

Decided it was too much to tackle the GTI and my mk4 V5 at the same time but I didn't want to part ways with the V5 (strangely) and I wanted something that would rival the GTI in terms of power but be kind of where I wanted the GTI to go after enough time. It wasn't really a difficult choice going for a mk6 Golf R, considering I wanted 4motion and 400bhp from the GTI, but the problem would always be I wouldn't of had DSG, and this is where the Golf R won the argument. It's essentially where I wanted the GTI to be minus the 400bhp, but for now I'll be happy to drive the Golf R as she is until the mk4 V5 is finished.

It'll be a very sad day seeing my GTI drive away, but these things must be. I've owned it for nearly 3 years and loved every minute, the highlight was this month featuring in Volkswagen Driver magazine ahead of GTI International, feels pretty amazing to achieve something I set out to do when I started modifying the car. I may take it to GTI International for one last blast before tucking it up safely and waiting for the right seller. Although I may take the Golf R up to give it it's initiation into it's new world. Haven't decided yet...

Lovely looking R - seeing the GTI and the R next to each other shows the difference - mk6 does look more modern, although I wouldn't call the mk5 dated.
Look forward to the posts on your new car!!

Thanks for the mind words. I'm sure I'll get the itch and do something with the Golf R, but seeing them together is mixed feelings. The GTI was the car of my teenage dreams and it still makes me happy every time I drive it.

But the Golf R is the next stage in my journey, so I'm also excited about that. The few times I've driven it, it excites me with the possibilities there are (blaming Hurdy entirely for this).

Either way, its a strange time in my life, think the changing cars reflects my need to start fresh over with things and take lessons learnt from the past.

I'm starting to scheme away with the Golf R, at most it'll be some subtle tweaks to the way it is, namely in the form of putting my Recaro buckets from the GTI into it and custom trimming them, and fitting the TD 1.2's with fresh tyres as well in preparation for later modifications.

Not a daft question at all. No, I never had problems with catching the arches but I think at 50mm drop, I'm at the limit of where I don't catch the arches even when fully loading one side (cornering like an idiot).

Just waiting for someone to come and buy it now, been quiet so far...

Nah, too heavy for my, going for something lighter... Save up to 20kg in the cabin alone with something carbon based. I'm going all out with the Golf R, it deserves it.

Well, seems I originally priced it a bit high, so the price is now dropped in order to find her a new owner who'll love her as much as I have. £6750 now, down from £8000!
