Rear wiper strange goings on!
« on: December 29, 2013, 04:50:31 pm »
I realise there are 1 or 2 threads on the net about this.......

Mk5 1.9 tdi sport 2005. Rear wiper works fine then stops completely!

1 - fuse has blown so replace the fuse  :happy2:
2 - new fuse, sitch on - fuse blows  :sad1:
3 - got a new motor but can't get the wiper arm off!!! The arm is jammed solid to the spindle
4 - haven't tested the new motor with a new fuse yet as it's all back together  :surprised:

Help!!!  :fighting:

They sell a small removal tool on eBay for less than £10

http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_trksid=p2050601.m570.l1311.R1.TR5.TRC1.A0.XWiper+removal+t&_nkw=wiper+removal+tool&_sacat=0&_from=R40

I used the Sealey one for the same problem - there's been some good suggestions when people have had that problem when doing the reversing camera install on this site - search for them.

Common problem is the tailgate harness breaking near the hinges - pull the rubbers back and check for this if the fuse blows again with the replacement motor.

Had the same problem on my old A3, turned out to be a broken wire in the harness at exactly the same point DOYLEBROS mentions. I would also check the wiper motor as well, mine was leaking causing the boot light not to work.

BTW buy a terminal pulley, specially the one recommended by VIKING, the cheaper ones are a false economy if as the plastic handle cracks under pressure.

Worth noting that some of the removal tools don't have enough scope to remove the rear... they are OK for the front but not the rear, so check with seller before buying. :happy2:

When the motor is dieing all sorts of strange Jazz goes on, most likely that mate. :happy2:

btw, if using the puller above, spray the wiper spindle with wd40 now before you go looking to buy one (time works wonders), then when you've got your puller, undo the nut a turn or two but don't remove it, attach the puller to the wiper arm with the spindle in the centre of the nut and apply some tension by turning the handle. When it goes tight and you can't turn it any more, tap the head of the spindle with a hammer and it'll shock the arm loose.
