The only vehicle,s that have to be examined (Vic check) are cat c cars, cat d cars don't , commercial,s don't
And motorbikes don't .
As you said cat c and d's can be put back on the road . It's been happening for years and years .. You'd be surprised how many , how many people hpi a cheapish car ? Thousands will be driving round in cars that are write off,s
Are they uninsured ?? No

There's a difference between paying for insurance and having insurance cover. Insurers will quite happily take your premiums based on the facts given to them at the time the policy was taken out. In many cases they already know the previous history of the car which they're taking premiums for, and will simply refuse a claim if and when an accident claim is presented to them.

Do not assume that paying for insurance either monthly or annually means you have a valid insurance policy.

And as you say, it's entirely legal for Cat C and Cat d cars to be put back on the road, as is Cat B.
Sarcasm for free. Anything after that can only be considered as a bonus.

Just because you think you know something, doesn't make you an expert if you've just read it on the internet, y'know.

You're confusing the insurance industries standards with legal fact. Insurance requirements are that Category A and B cars are not to be returned to the road. If you as a private individual were to buy an insurance Cat B car, there is nothing in law to stop you repairing it and returning it to the road. Category A I guess you'd have a hard job returning to road use, but the same applies. As long as you repair it to road going standard, have the vehicle VIC checked, get it mot'd and taxed, and can find an insurance company prepared to insure you, it's entirely legal.

Unlikely to get insurance cover for a Cat B , only ones i know that have been put back on the road are rare cars sent back to the factory to be repaired and a TVR Griffith 500 that the owner had delivered to his house with 2 miles on the clock and he wrote it off doing around 90mph with less than 10 miles on the clock . It was returned to TVR to repair and they F@cked up and damaged the engine , they put another engine in it and didn't update the owner or DVLA . We then examined it and found the engine change !

That's very likely. Although not being able to insure a car isn't the same as not being legal to put it back on the road. Which goes for Cat C and Cat D as well. The only people who can reasonably argue the case for being able to insure a written off car are the insurers who either will or won't accept the risk. After that, anyone claiming that they (insurers) will or won't provide cover is simply making assumptions. Personally, I believe insurers are less likely to offer cover for write offs, and certainly value them at less than a straight car if and when they need to pay out.

The people who own this garage are probably Mirpuri. Most people who come from pakistan to this country are mirpuri and they aren't very educated. Mirpur is an area in pakistan where people are from the hills, basically put they are - gypsies/ jungle people. However not everyone is like that, even within that community. There are many well established pakistani businesses, look at James Caan etc.

I guess any garage you go to you will get a gut feeling about the place and the people who run it.
