Eurgh!....tyres!
« on: December 30, 2013, 12:34:05 am »
I promised myself I'd never make a tyre thread...but here goes.

I'm due 4x new tyres in 225/40/18.

In the past I've used falkens, but since they're sh*t, I want to step up into the premium market.

What do you guys rate these days? Contis? Eagle f1s?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.  :drinking:

I heard Nankangs were quite good?  :innocent:

I run Sessantas and love them. I've used them exclusively for years and won't really change to anything else. To be honest most decent tyres days are all fairly equal up to 8/10th it's the last bit that differentiates them.
Richard only uses Goodyears and I think he invited the CEO to his wedding.

Most "new" / "latest generation" of tyres from Bridgestone/Dunlop/Goodyear/Michellin/Vredestein (they're on the Vorti now) are all within 2-5% of each other through normal driving, (Generally speaking, there are of course stand out models in each category). That being said there are track based tyres which are AWESOME in the dry but terrible in the wet/winter. A good place to look is TyreReviews, but take it with a HUGE pinch of salt. As some people on there unfortunately have no idea about tyres "I had Sunnews on my 911 Turbo and they were awesome what are you lot moaning about!"

Ha thanks boys!

Just had a thought..... I'm currently running 215/40s.

Do you think 225/40s will fit?

Tyre choice is pretty slim pickings and £10000000000.

It seems the only sensible choice is new alloys!

You will fit 225/40s on the rear with additional camber without issue at all.

I have 215/40 fronts and 225/45 rears (17s) as I needed the 215/40 to clear my bag on the front. Because of my genius plan I now have the pleasure of RANDOMLY (it does it like once every 3 or 4 ignition cycles) where the differences in rotational diameter of the wheels confuses my ESP and so any time I go over around 40mph where the percentile differences gets large enough, it randomly triggers the ESP so you have to turn it off, stop the car, do an ignition cycle and then carry on your merry way.

No thanks. Would just get 215/40 all round next time!!!

Personally I like the looks of the JKtyre Ultima Sport but as they are selling out across the country I would consider the lesser brands.

I've been using Hankook Ventus V12's and have been very pleased with them. Overall grip is good. Excellent in the dry but come unstuck a little in straight lineaacceleration. But I do have a million torques. Alex had these on his Vrs and I have never experienced handling like it. Obviously he has a few more handling mods than me but thought I'd give them a go and have been impressed.
