Brace yourself!

Howdo people

Brought myself a Laser Blue GTi just over a week ago, over the moon with it, just wondering if anyone else has had prob with back end stepping out, are they like this due to the usual Wheel cocking trait (sp) that the golfs have, had it step out on me on way home from picking up, nearly a brown pants moment, lol.

So does the uprated ARB on the back help this?? if so which is the best to go for??

Also has anyone fitted a Strut brace to there Golf like the one below, i know they are a newish car and got a very tight chassis but every little helps.

Thanks

Never had the backend stick out but have had understeer.

Janner_Sy:
if you back end is stepping out thast is pointing more towards oversteer if anything noty understeer. an uprated rear bar will reduce understeer. possibly inducing oversteer on lift off of the throttle.

if your car isnt new, it could be that it already has an uprated rear bar, the rear tyres might not be as good as the front tyres, the rear geometry could be out. ideally you will have the same brand of tyres on the front and rear.

if you dont like the back stepping out, then in my opinion dont just do the rear bar , instead go for a front and rear ARB package upgrade from the likes of eibach

if the car is new, then id say its unlikely to be the above but id go for a free alignment check to see if they are with in spec otherwise it could be down to driving style. i can step the back end out on mine if i want by lifting off in fast corners.

I have got one of the omp braces on my car, Didnt make much difference at all, Not like when i put one on my old A3 anyway. Think the front struts are already brace by the bulk head, but i have heard about a rear brace for the mk5.

tony_danza:
The MK5 was something insane like 80% stiffer than a MK4 and such braching is pretty much deemed pointless.

If the back's stepping out, check for the presense of a different rear ARB, tyres, geo or just chalk it down to driving style - you can make anything step out if you try.
