Thanks very much for all the comments guys, and sorry for the lack of updates! I don’t want this to be a build thread full of nonsense so I only try and post in here when there are worthy updates. Well here is what I’ve been up to since January.
Not long after I got the car, I had an image of it lowered on 19” CHs. I knew that I needed to get rid of the silver wheels as gunmetal/anthracite would make the red pop more. I really love the ride on the factory Pescaras and didn’t want to ruin it. It helps that rubber is abit cheaper in an 18” too.
So the original wheels were sold, I sourced a scabby set of Pescaras and refurbed them in Audi’s gunmetal. Love the finish and the colour, slapped some new centre caps in for good measure.
Love the finish you can get from powdercoat.
Wheels fitted and car given a wash.
Love the beading on the Collinite, still going well a few months into winter.
Love the colour of the wheels against the red paint.
Next mod on the list is the favourite thing I’ve done so far, Exhaust! I went for this exhaust purely off recommend off the forum. Every time an exhaust thread was mentioned, there was only one company which was came up “BCS Automotive” They offer 2 systems a “Sport” and the All Singing, All Dancing “Powervalve”. Basically its boost controlled so off throttle it’s slightly louder than stock and on boost it sounds like a Rally Car. So you don’t get any drone like you do with some exhausts.
I cannot explain how amazing it sounds; the DSG parps are insane and so addictive. DSG + BCS are what you need in your life.
Sealed with Platinum Wheels for good measure.
Some new goodies arrived from TPS (I love new parts)
Out with the Rev D DV and in with the Rev G. The old one was in decent condition but I wanted to refresh it with all the other engine bits to get it running as best as I could.
Changed the Coilpacks for the Red topped R8 ones and put in some NGK 8’s, as you can see, my old ones were a little “roasted out”.
New Cam Follower also, they cost so little, and so worth changing every 5k or so.
Car drove really well and smooth with the exhaust and these little bits, quite abit quicker too. Next was the main overhaul of parts that I had been collecting not long after I got the car, I had been buying bits slowly and aiming to do a little bit at a time but it ended up that it all got fitted at the same time.
So here’s the goodies:
KW V3s
H&R 28/24 ARBs
S3 Alloy Arms
SuperPro Adjustable Balljoints
Full Polybush kit
New OEM Top Mounts
New Consoles
New Droplinks
RS4 Return Valve
Loba HPFP
I had bought and fitted an MTC Intake, and with the fuel pump fitted it was running a lot smoother! I was dying to get the map on, so once all the suspension components were fitted I got it fully aligned.
Was dying to get the map on, and when I did boy was it worth it. At a recent RR day it made 345bhp & 409ft-lb, I’m sure I’ll map the DSG in the future and tweak the map for more powers, but it was driving really nice, lovely smooth power.
Some wonderful person had also keyed the car, so we had the joy of sorting that out.
I then removed the winter wax and put some sealant on the car instead, Zaino was my choice. I’m so glad I got Tornado Red one, such a lovely colour when clean.
The interior got some well needed attention also.
Treated the interior to an LED upgrade also.
Car looking fresh with Zaino on it.
I’m not usually one for petrol station pics but I couldn’t resist!
I wanted some proper rubber so got Federal 595 RSR these when they were on offer.
Tyres fitted and then dressed up, quite like the sidewalls on these!
I ordered some Carbon Lorraine brake pads as heard great things but they didn’t fit properly.
Sent them back and got some Mintex ones instead, you can see the pad differences here.
These ones fitted like a treat.
Car then got another clean before I headed off to Europe.
I got some cheap stick on paddles from eBay, which are actually pretty good! Well worth the money.
Finally a pic of the engine bay.
I spent the past week touring Europe for my 30th Birthday and managed to squeeze in a trip to the ring!
The ring was amazing, I cannot wait to go back, a pic of me in action.
Managed to fill up with V-Power Racing across Germany, nice having 100 RON!
So far running Stage 3 power, the worst tank has been 240 miles, and my best on the trip was 422 miles, which I was well impressed with.
So that rounds up where we are upto thus far. I’m really happy with where the car is at for now, and I’m in 2 minds whether I want to take it any further. Going to drive the car as is for the summer, do a few more track days, but I feel the need for a Golf R, whether it be Mk6 or Mk7. Time will tell.
Thanks again for reading.
