RNS510 and trip computer
« on: December 24, 2013, 10:03:27 pm »
Hi, newbie alert here.
Love these forums, they're great for information and inspiration.

Here's my problem;
Bought an RNS510 LED version C to fit to my 2006 1.9tdi.
Loaded firmware 4120 which prevents battery drain.

Once I had fitted the rns510 to my golf, the volume buttons on the multifunction steering wheel worked straight away.
However the high line display did not show any audio information, such as track number, therefore I could not change song using the mfsw.
Also, the navigation information does not appear on the highline trip computer.

Went to see a mate who has vcds, tried to code the high line clocks to work with the RNS, but his software wouldn't let us do it for some odd reason.
He said that it could be because his software could only code clocks older than mine.

What do I do?

Also, when I had the standard rcd300 in my golf, because it's a Match spec; it had the audible bong that sounded when I turned the ignition on and another bong when the stereo turned on. But it stopped happening when I changed to the RNS.
Is there a way I can enable that with the RNS?

Cheers everyone.

If the menu options get stuck when you go into the audio and NAV options, you might have a compatibility issue between the RNS and the instrument cluster. Others have reported similar problems. If that's the issue, you could try restarting the headunit after you get stuck in the menus. I think RNS510 version C is known to do this.

Sorry for the late reply mate, I didnt get notified that you messaged for some odd reason.

I did some research on google, which stated that I had to change some coding through VAGCOM.
It then worked no issues.

No worries.

I've just re-read your OP in conjunction with your post above and I assume you checked the box for BAP/DDP protocol in address 37 and the info came up on your display.
Does the display get stuck on audio or nav when you are using it and stay stuck until you switch the headunit off?
