Big power on a FWD car is obviously going be difficult at times but when you get that big stupid grin on your face it's worth it.
500+bhp on a 4WD puts an even bigger smile on your face.

John you need to update your sig.

I'm still on Stage 3 for both. Do you mean pop in the 500+bhp?

Try putting the foot down from 30 to 70 ... That's when you can use it.

Yep, they did stretch the rules a little though.....air con removed, performance pack added, which meant better brakes and better tyres. :happy2:

Still a very good time though.

My old ST was fitted with an electronic torque limiter in first and second to aid traction and protect driveshafts. Unless I was being an absolute hooligan or it was wet i very rarely got any spin, even with TC off.

I'd love to get my golf to the same level, I can see DSG making it even more awesome.

I wouldn't do over 300bhp again in a fwd. Admittedly it is fun, but over 350bhp the car ends up going slower over a 1/4 mile unless you do a cage and slicks.

Only because your sole drive is 0-60 and 1/4 times. Nothing wrong with 300+ in fwd for normal use.

I agree.

I ran nearly 400hp in a FWD for years and it was great for everything apart from 1/4 runs.

How is the Leon running Dan - Up for 30-130 again this year (if it goes ahead?)

Back on topic. .....

I ran plenty of trackdays in the ED 30 and loved them all, but I wouldn't go BT and fwd.  Dan should be with me on this one as he actually converted his Leon to 4WD.

I have over 370bhp through my front wheels and it puts the power down well. In the wet, coming out of corners (unless you have a good diff) and standing starts does 4wd come into its own. Once rolling a 4wd car with equal power is actually a bit slower.

This! Friend has a scooby, he wins off the line even with my diff etc etc. However he admits I do pull on him mid range and leave him top end. He's running 10 bhp than me at 370, but same torque.

This is why with 4WD you just simply add more power that a Fwd wouldn't be able to cope with.

My thoughts are a 300bhp GTI with WALK (or equivalent), engine mounts, decent tyres (GY F1's), lowered and importantly: LINEAR THROTTLE MAPPING, would be great fun to drive. Even better with LSD!

You could use most of the power most of the time and have a lot of fun whilst doing so  :driver:

The Golf R and S3 as standard are very "safe" but not very exciting, 260ish bhp is EASY for the 4WD system to handle day to day so you need to ramp it up to high 300's or into the 400bhp range to liven it up, get the tail out etc  :happy2:
