Newbie
« on: January 07, 2014, 12:18:58 pm »
Afternoon everyone.

Thought I would post up a thread as it looks like I am going to be getting back into the VW fold shortly.

Currently I am driving a 2007 Z4MC but practicality and saving some money has taken its toll and that is now up for sale.

Looking at GTi's as I can't really think of anything that is going to do the job as well.

Here's a couple of pics of the Zed.

Nice car, I've always liked the quirky shape.  Have you considered a M135i ?  £250 per month 2 year contract £1.7k down.

Failing that any of the K04 turbo'd VAG cars: Mk5 Ed.30 / Pirelli, Mk6 Ed.35 / Golf R, Audi S3 etc. will give you circa 300bhp Stage 1, 350bhp Stage 2+

Hi Scotty,

Thanks, I always liked it too. Still do. In fact I love it and will be massively sorry to see it go to be honest, but needs must and all that.

I'm looking at a budget of 7-8.5k so I don't think that's going to stretch to an ED30 at the moment (although I do keep looking at them). My guess is that I will get a relitively decent standard GTi with some lowish miles. There are some nice cars in the classifieds here at the moment.

I am going to miss the power and sounds of the Zed though!

Oops... just spotted that there is a Newbie section.

Mods, could you please move this one for me?

Thanks
Vea

Stage 1 K03 (GTI) with RTech map will give ~250bhp/300lbft and go well.  The little K03 spools quicker than the K04.

Things to look out for on all the 2.0L TFSI cars K03 and K04:

Diverter Valve (DV), these can split leaking boost, straight forward job £35 part - most performance related issues are down to this.

Rusting wheel arches, foam behind the liner gets water saturated and rubs aginst the arch and rusts from within.
Cam Follower, these can wear on high milers and tuned cars, straight forward job and £30 part

PCV (Positive Crank case ventilation), can leak and need replacing, very easy job £35 part

FSH is ideal, especially cam belt/pump

Scotty,

Thanks chap, very much appreciated. There seems to be a lot of very comprehensive information in here.

I used to have a Lupo GTi (sold around 5 years ago). I loved it.

Can't find a pic at the moment, but I'm sure I have some somewhere.
