Considered 1.9 TDI engines? £200 bumper swap and you have a car that looks exactly like the later model TDIs.

The 1.9D's are one of the loudest diesel lumps I've had the displeasure to drive... a non Turbo Polo, which must have a 0-100 time measured in minutes rather than seconds... but I doubt the addition of a turbo would do much to soften that awful clatter up front --- sensational MPG though, a 6n2 built like a Tank and no feckin' rust!!  Hasn't been driven in nearly 3 years, must get around to sorting it out...

I have a 05 plate pd140 with 138000 on the clock. When I was working for alstom,
My daily commute was from Manchester to Nottingham via wood head and m1 I regularly
Returned 63-67mpg and that wasn't hanging around, get the 140 and map it. Honestly I've had
This car nearly 6 years (longest I've ever owned one) as it's just so good at everything. But now I work in
Manchester I still get around 40mpg just driving round.
