« on: January 05, 2014, 01:48:55 pm »
Afternoon everyone.
Apologies if this is in the wrong section.

I am trying to find out a rough idea of what insurance would pay out for the below, and what is taken into consideration when they make the valuation. I  would be very grateful if anyone could help :) the basics are as follows but can provide further information if required.

Mk5 golf 2.0 TDi 140PS.
54 plate
105k
FSH

Please help.

Many thanks  :happy2:

They will always pay as little as possible and work the opposite to a seller and start low and go up

They will want all the service history receipts etc sent to them

I estimate a start around £4k , but does also depend on who you are insured with and what the salvage is worth , does the engine still run ?

Starting price anywhere between £2100 - £3300
Sarcasm for free. Anything after that can only be considered as a bonus.

Just because you think you know something, doesn't make you an expert if you've just read it on the internet, y'know.

Am I the only one here whose first thought on reading "flooded car" was carburettors?  Or am I just too old?

Anyway, whatever their offer might be, you should start your homework now.   The idea is to provide solid evidence to justify the full amount to which you think you're entitled.

I had a similar issue a few years ago when my motorbike was written off.  (I was almost written off, too, but thank God for the ambulance and NHS).  The first offer was an insult, so I created a dossier about an inch thick and sent it recorded delivery to the loss adjuster.  The dossier contained my original purchase receipt, a receipt for every penny spent on it since, plus dozens of adverts from Auto Trader of similar bikes.  On a separate piece of paper with each advert, I explained why my bike was worth more or less than the advertised bike.

They stopped arguing very quickly!

Good luck

Really sorry to hear about the flooding.

Regards insurance - as above - company will pay as little as possible. But DON'T accept their  first offer!
Look for similar vehicles in ads, dealers, papers etc. Find examples, if you can, and use that of evidence of the value of your car. But sadly don't expect too much sympathy.

Settlements seem to be dealers buying in price less a £1k or so.

Best of luck mate.

Look at we but any car... That's similar to what they'll pay... But get together lots if adverts of similar age, mileage, colour, spec, condition cars and show em what it's gonna cost to replace... But then again if claiming off your insurance the more they give the higher ya premium probably...

Thanks guys!

We buy any car offer £2600 - and no doubt they would slash that down on inspection for what ever reason.

Find some nicely overpriced similar spec'd cars on autotrader and put them into an email. I got my insurance company to give me the avrage of 4/5 i found, as that is what it would have cost me to get a replacement.
