Advice on paying via paypal for an item i'm collectin
« on: January 08, 2014, 03:37:48 pm »
Hi everyone,

I'm picking an item up from a fellow member on sunday. I need to pay via paypal as this is the only way it can come off a credit card.

Thinking about things from the buyer perspective if i turn up and pay via paypal that exposes them to potential scam (technically i could claim i never recieved the item and it couldnt be proved that I collected)

Is there a way I can collect an item and pay via paypal that keeps the seller protected? Perhaps pay as a gift which doesnt give me any come back might be the way forward?

Thanks

Pay as a gift as you're standing collecting the item, he gets the money and you get the item.
Used to have Edition 30 - number 009 and a GT TDI 140.
Now have an S4 B8 Avant (stage 2)

Very honest of you to think about the seller in this transaction but that's not your prerogative in my opinion. Obviously paying as a gift saves you the 3.4% PP fee but gives you no chance to query anything. If the seller wanted, they could knock up a very simple 'contract' for you each to sign on collection.

Just my 2 p

Go to a cash machine and withdraw money from your credit card's account?

Have you ever read the fees involved in taking cash out on a credit card?

Worst way to go about it in my opinion.

Pay as a gift as you're standing collecting the item, he gets the money and you get the item.

^^^^ this with your phone, the seller might even let you connect to his home broadband to speed up connection and payment (I have before)
I am pretty sure once seller has his money you can take your goods! Everyone's happy  :happy2:

The original question was about mitigating risk? Not the cheapest way to do it.

Where there's Paypal, there's a potential scam.

Sorry haven't read your thread through, however is the seller even bothered about this?  If not, pay via PP pickup, give them some flowers and all well with the world. :happy2:

Failing that leave some collateral, a baby, small puppy, girlfriend etc.

make sure you pay the card off entirely or they will sting you, especially if you have debt on there before taking the cash
