New member with a MK5 GTi 2008
« on: January 08, 2014, 08:28:29 pm »
Hi All,

This is a great resource and I've done many hours of reading, so I've made a contribution to the site via the donation thread.

This is my first ever VW and I couldn't be happier. I bought a 2008 GTi with 26K on the clock with full VW service history back in November last year. I am already looking at a Stage 1 tune from R-Tech having read all the good feedback about them.... hopefully that will keep me happy for sometime.

Sorry about the crap photo, it was an iPhone photo taken in a hurry.

I've had a few hot hatches over the years and thought I might as well list them for anyone who is interested. Started with a couple of Renault 5 GT Turbos, a couple of Pulsar GTi-R's (one being a Dakar model with 4 speed short ratio box), then two Subaru WRX's when I lived in California and then a Subaru STi (2.5 litre version) tuned by Crawford Performance with TGV delete, iridium spark plugs, Turbo inlet pipe, Prodrive springs, WRX wing & trunk (!) Easy Ecutek software with two maps. 245lbs tq., 325hp) and now my Golf as above.

Installed the Volant CAI today on my totally OEM GTi. I was worried about the additional noise but it's a lot quieter than I thought, slightly quicker pickup and the engine seems to rev freer.

No problems installing, cut about 15mm off the turbo pipe to make the whole system sit a little lower. The actual CAI housing doesn't sit as sturdy as I hoped as there is some movement but it shouldn't cause any problems. *crosses fingers*

I had the Volant for a while, it's a nice little CAI, not too intrusive... I think you lose a tad of low down torque, but that's the same with most CAI's.
