Mk5 GTI's and High Mileage
« on: January 10, 2014, 02:52:46 pm »
Hey guys, just wanting some advice from the GTI owners or former owners.

I have been looking around like always for a GTI which pops up in my budget and one has...but its a 2005 reg and has 121k miles on. it has a full VWSH and had the belts changed at 80k miles iirc.

my question is should i have any concerns about the mileage? people who i ask always say mileage doesnt matter, aslong as its been well maintained....

if i was to get it, naturally i would take it to my garage and have them give it a major service and probs change the belts just for peace of mind.

is there any common problems with high mileage cars? anything i should look out for in particular? its also a car that i would probably want to mod and tweek the performance in the future...(probs just intake, exhaust + remap)

any info would be greatly appreciated!

This has been covered before, should be in the search .

Diverter valve
Fuel pump cam follower
PCV valve

No majorly expensive parts.

General service history, cambelt & waterpump

Av55raz had one for sale that seemed very cheap and OK condition from the pictures

Cheers jay :D

I was in the same boat when looking for a gti.  Ive done 1300 miles in my gti and counting.  Bought it at 118k drives really well.  No problems at all.
