Battery replacement
« on: January 13, 2014, 06:14:40 pm »
I have ordered a new Bosch S5 battery for my GTi.

When I swap them over and re connect the new battery, is there anything I should be ready for...alarm going off etc.. if so, is it a case of pressing the remote lock/unlock?

Cheers

Darren

P.S. just to clarify, negative off first then positive, then positive on and negative on?

When I did mine, the alarm went off when I disconnected the battery and then again when I reconnected it. Just unlocking with the keyfob stopped it when this happened. Also you will get a load of warning lights come on the dash when you first start it again after replacing. These will disappear once you start driving off  :happy2:

Ross tech is recommending to do throtle body adaptation as well. Rest shut be fine. But in some rare cases you might need your radio code as well.

Well, the battery arrived today and I fitted it.  The only small problem that I had was the bracket and getting good purchase on it with my 12mm socket.

The alarm did not go off at all. The only things I had where the steering wheel, ESP and tyre monitoring lights on the dash which went out after a minute of driving slowly. I had to reset the clock and re program the one-shot windows.  The radio was fine.  All's good.
