Ebay Xenon headlamp Upgrade
« on: January 13, 2014, 12:29:41 pm »
Hi I've sieved through many existing threads but what I have seen have been quite old, Just wondering opinions on these:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Projector-headlights-set-xenon-look-VW-Golf-MK5-Jetta-MK3-/251363273297?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&fits=Model%3AGolf%7CPlat_Gen%3AMK+V&hash=item3a866b2a51

Other suggestions welcomed of other UK RHD suppliers.
Also a quick question, How do these compare to genuine oem units in terms of appearance and operation.

Thanks Peeps

Could you fit a HID kit to these without fear of blinding the rest of the road users?

Same as the other 500000 threads on the topic.
They would be OK.

As I mentioned I've been through a fair few threads, maybe I'm using the search function wrong as I'm getting threads up from 2011 right back to 2008 I had a niggly feeling this question may have been asked once or a few thousand times!
Any links then guys?

This seems to be the thread people are saying about. From what I can tell, light output is rubbish so you would need an. (Illegal) HID kit http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,56795.345.html

Thanks for the link mate, unsure about the illegal bit, I've used HIDs for years and from reading the VOSA guidelines which you can get on the web it makes it quite clear the legalities of them.

http://www.transportoffice.gov.uk/crt/doitonline/bl/mottestingmanualsandguides/mottestingmanualsandguides.htm

"Vehicles equipped with High Intensity Discharge (HID) or LED dipped beam headlamps may be fitted with headlamp washers and a suspension or headlamp self levelling system."

The rest I believe is the same for any bulb in terms of beam aim etc.

My two pence worth :happy2:

Fair enough! I stand corrected.

Won't be bothering with these lights myself now as it seems like a lot of potential hassle.

The search function is a bit weird on this forum...try going to Advanced and limiting the age of the results (change the 9999 days to 365, or whatever). Might help.

If they are Depo, they arn't the best but it will do. Im keeping an eye out for Hella ones, rare to come by! But I got the Depo ones for time being with HID and LED side lights.
