Does anyone know if i can just prise of the actual vw badge without taking the whole handle assembly off the boot and then just replace the actual badge please.

Ask brookesb32 to make you one up. :happy2:

If you buy a newer shape one, you will lose the slow close (the new ones snap shut)... I bought a slow close with 3d badge from Brookes, it's been great:

They just un clip using a credit or small screw driver just go carefull. If not removing the whole badge is not a big job mate.

I did mine myself. Removed the old one.

Then removed the badge, cleaned it up and shaved a little off the edge to make it a tad smaller. Then I ordered some fake carbon film for a few quid of eBay and stuck it on. Ordered a mk6 badge for around £30 and Roberts your dad's brother.

As the peeps above say, either mod yours with a Mk5 3D VW Emblem or a Mk6 beveled 3D emblem or buy a newer Mk5 mech or a Mk6 mech. Found a cheap Mk6 one on eBay for you .....
