mfd2 to rns510
« on: January 31, 2014, 10:45:45 am »
Hi there I'm just wondering is the rns510 a lot better than my mfd2? And is.it worth upgrading to one and selling my mfd2 unit? What are the main differences? I already have a xcar link fitted so I have a iPhone/ipod interface which allows me to have control from the steering wheel also have a 3.5mm jack plus still have the cd changer in my arm rest? What is a mfd2 worth?

Difference is touch screen and different layout etc.

MFDs sell for like £150 these days wouldn't pay more for one personally.

I personally wouldn't change to an RNS510 from an MFD2 unless you value touchscreen and full postcode address lookup at £350....

Ive had both. When I had the MFD2, I convinced myself that i didnt need the RNS510. Then I bought one... and love it. So much better than the MFD2!

The only thing youll need is a dual fakra adapter off ebay like this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-RCD510-310-Car-Aerial-Adaptor-Dual-Fakra-Splitter-Connector-Converter-Cable-/161169425461?pt=UK_In_Car_Technology&hash=item2586724435

Thank you both for your quick replies, I'm not sure now??  I have just bought 6 heater controlls so the rns 510 would be better to work with the heater display correct? But I'm not too bothered about that, the post code input doesn't really bother me and my mfd2 has recent maps and latest software update and it sounds pretty good with the 10 speaker upgrade... It's a lot of money for very little brother looks of it. Can I make my mfd2 play dvd's?

Well... if you put in the MK6 heater control, youll have no idea how hot youve set it.

I might be wrong but I'm sure the mk6 control panel displays information ie fan settings, temp settings and heated seat level etc, if you have a rcd510 or rns510 it also displays the information on the screen which looks pretty good.
I'm not sure if you can install the panel and keep your MFD2, cant see why not?

Also Leigh200sx were you on the CTRO  forum as I think I may have bought some stuff from you :happy2:

I already have rcd510 and I'm very tempted to change the panel to have the images on screen
