Fitting later 3D style boot handle
« on: January 20, 2014, 11:08:33 am »
Hi guys, wonder if anyone can help or suggest how I can resolve this.

I am in talks with Simon (brookesb32) as the boot handle guru!  :notworthy: But we are still not sure how/why.

I have fitted a later 3D style boot handle to my 2005 golf to remove the whiteworm one. This sat flush but the new handle sticks out, looking at later 57 plate onwards golfs with this handle fitted as standard it sits flusher, and better than mine.

See pics below:

The handle in question. Standard one, not sure if missing anything around the base?

Badge sticks out about 5mm:

And from inside, the black locater is preventing me spacing the badge in further:"

Simon kindly send me some bolts from a later badge as well, cheers mate  :happy2: but still sits the same.

I thought about cutting the black tags off and then using some washers so the badge will sit more flush. Not ideal, plus think then will leak small amount of water in.

Hmmm. Maybe a later tailgate is different. if anyone has the rear trim off in the near future who has a 3D stype badge fitted as standard would they mine having a look how fits. Might have a shroud or trim bit I need.

Cheers Si

I have a mk6 rvc badge, fitted to my 05 GTI and experience the same issue! I have just been living with it, as still looks better than the only white worn. Also looked at trying to space out with washer but no possible with the tabs. Not much help, but at least you know your not alone!

you'll only start getting water ingress if you try spacing the badge in...hence why there is a tab or locator fitted
just have to live with it

Think a Mk6 bsdge on this handle base will sit better? As I think they wrap round the edges more if that makes sense  :happy2:

Yeah mine sticks out like that too since I changed it on my '05. Still think it looks alright though.

I fitted a complete Mk6 handle to mine and it sits flush...

Mines a 2006, I'm not sure what year the badge was from though...

G40will, looks good mate. Is that a Mk6 badge on a 5 handle?

It's a full Mk6 handle and badge mate, had to stretch the wires a bit but it just about reached. I must lengthen them next time I take the trim of the inside if the boot.

The red in fills are pre cut vinyl of eBay for about £1.50 posted!

I've just fitted a mk6 badge to mine and it also sticks out. Tell me if I'm wrong but there are late mk5s with 3d badge and mk6 I believe mk6 is deeper I like it. G40Will if you trim the loom tape back where the lock wires and handle wires split there would be enough play to not need to stretch or lengthen them if you want to be anal like I was I re taped it with gen vw loom tape. Also would you be g40will from clubpolo? Used to go to the phirm red g40?
