Sorry for reviving an old thread, buuut I was thinking... there is a metal clip holding the two parts together, and ELSA suggests to open the housing to test the thermostat, so it's not impossible. What if, instead of working with those spring clamps, we just separate the two halves, while still in the car, and just change the core and the o-ring from the new stat? Did anyone try this way or does anyone know if it wouldn't work? I think I might try this when I do mines.
