Does anyone know of any good places that recondition turbos? My turbo on edition 30 has decided to give up and leak oil in to exhaust and intake. I work at Vw dealership but new turbo is still costing around £950 so looking at reconditioning.

Not sure where you are based but I used these to refurb a PD150 turbo a few years ago. http://www.midlandturbo.com/

Did you notice any sounds before it gave up mate? (how many miles you done)... oil around intercooler is common... is it blowing smoke out the back?  (Only reason I ask is I'm having some issues atm)

Due to the book time on a turbo swap I can understand why you wouldn't go 2nd hand, but most come with a fair amount of warranty, if you can DIY it / prefential labour time due to your job :happy2:

Started smoking lots at low revs and idle, cleared if driven at about 2500rpm. Also if left on idle engine started to hunt and misfire. I have found small amount of oil in all four cylinders and looking at the turbo there is a clamp between exhaust and inlet on turbo, I have oil dripping from there. Also a fair amount of oil in tubo pipes. You shouldn't really get any oil in the turbo pipes on petrol just like a glaze on pipes is normal tho. There doesn't seem to be any damage to my turbo just looks like the oil seals have given up. I think book time is around the 3.5 hour mark but I should be able to change in about 2 hours. (Once I have a turbo)
