Rain sensor adhesive
« on: February 04, 2014, 11:51:27 pm »
Anyone recommend any particular type of glue to stick a rain sensor mount to the windscreen on mk5 golf??
Gonna have a go at the retrofit of auto dim/rain sensing mirror at the weekend.just found the kit has no adhesive or glue in it.
Thanks

There is an OEM glue, but I don't know the current part number.
There is a couple listed here but they may be outdated http://www.myturbodiesel.com/wiki/rain-light-sensor-retrofit-and-installation-vw-diy/

I did this in our Tiguan but opted to crack the windscreen, and paid the excess to get a new one with a pre-mounted sensor holder in the right place.

I doubted any Loctite type tubes would hold it, the frame and mirror unit is heavy.
Otherwise I had a local independent glass fitter who offered to fit the frame for me with the proper adhesive. If you have a local windscreen place it would be worth dropping in and asking them if you can get some/maybe fit it for you.
Used to have Edition 30 - number 009 and a GT TDI 140.
Now have an S4 B8 Avant (stage 2)

is this the actual thing that holds the sensor to the screen?

The sensor is not glued, I take it Marko is asking for the adhesive to stick the metal frame to the windscreen.

Have a look here, the sensor slots into the metal clip and then a spring on the back of the mirror unit compresses it in tight

If its just a standard mirror back without rain sensor then its D 000 703 A1 which is set of glass metal adhesive

If you have the rain sensor then you need D 180 KD2 A1 which is a 2-pack polyurethane adhesive

1st ones about a Tenner 2nd about 25 quid.
Loads of extra's and retro fits.
