Top spec Ed30 but wrong colour?
« on: September 27, 2009, 01:04:04 am »
Ok, so i'm looking for a CW Ed 30 and cant be too picky about the options as there's very few around.

However, there's a black one for sale, that, spec wise if absolutely top notch:-

DSG
3dr
Xenons
Sat Nav
Cruise
Sunroof
Park sensors

BUT ITS BLACK!! The hardest colour to keep clean and looking swirl free....and i want a white one.

Should I forget the black one and wait for white (prob with lower spec) or look at owning a black one and hoping the colour wont bug me?

I had a Black one as you can tell from the sig...to be totally honest I would hold out and get the one you really want.

Black is alot of effort to keep clean and I think that colour is far too common in the GTi's does look awesome clean though.

I was in EXACTLY the same dilemma as you when I was buying mine. I held out for white.....and I definitely think it was the best decision.

Although very occasionally I must admit whenever I see a shiny, well presented black GTI I do start wondering if I made the right decision.

Get it vinyl wrapped and sell it for a £1500 premium ;-)

I'd try to hang out mate tbh but they're rarer than rocking horse droppings.

I really wanted a black gti. Dealers were offering me £1000s off the non-black ones. Didnt go for it, even though they were fully loaded or had the specs I wanted.

Went for a black ed30. Very basic in terms of extras but I love it to bits. One year on and my heart still skips a beat when I walk towards my car.

Go for the colour you want. Almost everything else can be retrofitted later.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

It depends on how essential your options list is.

Ed30's with Xenons are like hens teeth (£900 option), with the sunroof and factory (?) fit Sat Nav I would say buy it and live with the colour choice, but that is my personal opinion of course.

Don't forget there are only limited numbers of Ed30's available.

black is very common
black however can be kept looking great with minimal effort if done correctly  :happy2:

spec on that car is great and how I wanted mine but couldnt afford it!

ultimately though if you always wanted a white one , then Id hold out , as no amount of spec is going to make up for it if you see a white one when youre driving the black one and think oh no Ive made a mistake.....

(although in fairness I do that a bit when I see red ones  :signLOL:)

patience is a virtue when buying, esp if you are pretty selective  :happy2:

(edit to add , Id also be seriously considering a pirelli if you arent THAT bothered about colour and are considering the black ed30)

Thanks for the replies chaps. So in summary i need to:- get white - get black - great spec get it - hold off be patient :signLOL:

BUGGAR!!!!!!!!

Well i'm only 30 miles from the black one so will have a tootle over this aft and have a gander. Although it's going for top top money also, which is a put off (prob because of the spec).

I've also seen/had a drive of a red one on Friday and have an opportunity to look at a white one (albeit with "issues") on Monday.

So hopefully i can make a judgement after that.

I was in the same situation as yourself when I had mine, GTi appose to ED30. I had my heart set on a candy white one but over the 2/3 months I spent searching for one not one decent one came up. I then went to have a gander at a basic pearl black one and didn't look back. I in some ways regret it but in others I don't because I've got a car that I'm more than happy with in standard guise.

Something you'll have to weigh up but if it feels right then go for it because you may well end up regretting it in the long run.
If you have to ask why, you'll never understand.

I waited 2 years to get my candy white, hard to hold out for it, could have saved £2k getting a blue one but White had to be the colour or nothing for me

That car has an awesome spec, I'd say quite unusual for an ED30.

I have a bit of a theory for the ED30, I think dealers targeted current GTi owners on their database who were then wanting the car but had to keep costs down to make the change viable.  This lead to quite a few with minimal options.  As Ian says £900 for the Xenons is quite a lot, DSG is what £1200.  Sat Nav was expensive too, don't make it a deal breaker if it's an MFD2, RNS510 on the other hand would have been about £1600 and well worth having.
