GPS antenna signal
« on: January 28, 2014, 10:18:41 am »
My mate has an RNS510 retrofitted into her 05 GT. The satellite signal is very intermittent and will work for some time and then all of a sudden loose all satellites and then decide she's driving through a field. More often than not there are no satellites at all.

The antenna is an eBay cheapo with adhesive backing placed behind the clocks.

Should I be looking at getting her a genuine VW antenna or one from someone more reputable like Kufatec?

Cheers
Dom

No1 experienced this? I've read a few threads but there's not a definitive answer.

I know someone that has installed quite a few 510's he always uses the 10 quid gps aerial and locates them under the centre air vent, never had a problem.

perhaps try another one just in case its faulty but if the problem persists i'd be looking at other things
Loads of extra's and retro fits.

Had a similar experience to the above and eventually had to replace the roof mount with shark-fin c/w extension lead - now perfect every time.

Fitted the puck I removed from MKV into another vehicle MKVI and it worked perfect in that vehicle for the local area.

Took that vehicle (MKVI) to London and it failed sadly - returned with the same vehicle with another Shark-fin same as fitted in my MKV and it was perfect!

So could be the puck isn't good enough for her local area!
