White clouding/Haze on paintwork wont go away - HELP!
« on: February 01, 2014, 05:12:20 pm »
Hey everyone.

Got some white clouding/Hazing on some portions of my reflex silver paintwork for quite a white. Have tried washing and hand polish and it reappears in 1 minute. When paintwork is wet its totally invisible so is it to do with the clearcoat?

Have looked around on the web and it says sun cream can do this and similar products. Some people say machine polish with cutting compound, some say no, some say white spirit etc etc and im quite confused and worried if it'll ever come out.

Will try and get pictures up when the weathers dry but until then, anyone got any ideas of how to get rid of this??

Really appreciate the help! Omar

From memory I think I used Meguiars Ultimate Compound Polish and then went over it with Autoglymn Super Resin Polish followed by wax. Mine was definitely suncream though. Good luck!

I could be wrong here but I this happened to a friend of mine a few years back.
You (or whoever) may have polished through the clearcoat and exposed the 'metal particles' contained in the 'paint' underneath.
The particles are aluminium and when exposed to the air, oxidise very quickly, thus turning the grey colour you can see.
The clear coat is there to protect these surface layer particles.
The only option my pal had, was to get the surfaces affected A) polished and re clearcoated and B) on one panel complete respray.
Over exuberant polishing in his case.

I'd take it to a professional paint works and get it checked

You should be able to tell if it's this, or if it's suncream. Mine was obviously a smear and I could see finger prints. If somebody has polished through then it's a whole dofferent ballgame, but it should be fairly obvious.
