Resonated or non??
« on: January 29, 2014, 11:24:00 am »
What's the difference and why is res more expensive?
What's the reasons why you would go for each one?

A Non Resonated exhaust has no central silencer whereas a Resonated one does, simples.  Resonated costs more cause there's more to the exhaust system.

From Milltek's site, a good explanation......

A resonator is a chamber in the exhaust system that contains a specific volume of air which is designed to cancel out certain frequencies of sound (made by the engine) - making the exhaust noise quieter.

Therefore, a non-resonated exhaust system will give you extra performance and a louder exhaust note and the resonated system will give you extra performance without increasing the exhaust noise much.

Resonated Miltek is pointless as to me it sounds the same as a standard one!

I have a Milltek resonated and I can confirm it's no louder at idle and low speeds, although the note has changed slightly. When you get higher into the rev range you notice from the outside (confirmed by friend who followed me) that it is louder than stock but the noise doesn't intrude.

DSG 'pops' in between changes are more clearly audible from inside the car.

Personal choice, I wanted the benefits but not too much noise and that's what I got.

There are other reasons for buying one apart from noise depending on your level of tune.

Have a look at the BCS Powervalve as an option, best of both worlds as its nice and quiet while pottering around town (albeit with a slightly deeper burble) buy when on WOT the valve opens turning into, effectively, a non resonated system. 2 systems for the price of one. It's not boomy on the motorway either, as the valve is boost activated I can be travelling along at 70mph (as that's the legal limit ) and its as quiet as an OEM system.

..........Just a thought.

Oh, maybe to far but I'm in West Sussex if you wanted to hear a BCS Powervalve TBE in action.

BCS was the route i wanted to go, due to the quality of the work, i very nearly bought a system from dan930, which i think MC71 now has.

Shame i was made redundant the week dan text me to say it was now off his car.

The milly i have has been on a car for about 15k and has started to crack on the tail pipes like so many are doing now, but the sound is great  :signLOL:

^^^^ I'm keeping it in mint condition for you!

Whenever the cars up on a ramp the system looks like new, the craftsmanship in simply awesome.

@ GRA,

BCS's site is under construction, just give em a call.  Have a read of this though......
