To STICK with 19's (monza's) or go back to 18's...with pics of course...

OK! officially starting modding today   ...I asked the question a while back about 19's or not....

well wheels came back from Prestige in Stockport (refurb) and their work is a1! BUT....put them on my edition 30 and to say that i wasnt overwhelmed would be a massive understatement.

Drove it from High Peak (derbyshire) to northwich (cheshire) and whilst it drives nice, there is definitely a "feel" in loss in power although seems to glide and hold speed alot better.  

now I know the wheels are likely to be heavier and there is a discrepancy that the actual tyre width and profile is different (from 225/35/18 to 235/40/19) but this is dramatic difference. Braking distance seems to have increased also, have to press the peddle harder to stop although not overly concerned about that as I'm putting tt rs calipers and discs on soon...

..the drama continues...the fronts are catching which means either a narrower tyre (which may not solve the issue of rubbing) or arches rolled. The car isnt lowered, but was thinking to put some v3's on...I'm not even sure with any drop without rolling the arches would be any point as will scrape the life out the tyres...right or wrong?

Tyres on the car are currently brand new set of michelin super sports...

SO...a pictures says a thousand words?

take a look and give me your opinion on if they think obscene or stay with 18's and get them refurbed in the same way...

offset not 100% sure on width is 8"...?

You need to plan out your modifications to stop yourself from wasting money, IE measure twice cut once. You should know the exact size of a wheel before you buy so you can work out if it will fit.
 If those wheels are only 8inch wide the offset looks substantial. The wheels will look good once you get the stance correct, if the wheels are too wide getting the stance correct is going to cost you.
Also a VW monza II hollow wheel is heavy, 19in aftermarket wheels are going to weigh the same as a small planet. You can expect to feel the extra weight i am afraid.

lol'ed the small planet part. to be honest, your 100% right and complacency is going to cost me.

Had a quote from a garage to open up front arched slightly, its not dramatic but its expense...are there any recommended places northwest based?

I used this to measure before I put the wheel on :

by my calculations came out ET of 45. the difference of 35 or 40mm tyre height is negligible. even changing the width from 225 to 235 (WITH even taking into consideration of 5% reduction in tyre 'bulge' over the rim) it was a guestimate that they would fit.

I'm sorry that it offends you so much jay lol had no idea you felt so strongly about this topic. it was a question for peoples opinions and I respect yours...but i was asking about aesthetics vs drive-ability. not if would rub...I know it does already.

In addition to above, is 235/40/19 correct as usually the correct fitment should be  235/35/19 to keep the rolling circumference as close as possible to standard.

putting michelin super sports all the way round wasnt cheap...so think i'll waiting to change the tyres when they get to 4mm - thankyou though

RE: offset this should be stamped on the back of the wheel you shouldn't need to measure.
from how they LOOK if they are 8j they look to be more like et 35 in terms of how they sit in the arch. (this is from the pictures so not accurate)

ok no worries, I've got a quote from a local garage to roll the arches and I'm happy with that. has abit of a knock on effect with other mods but I'm having looked at the car over and over and seeing people gorping at her as they walk past my office I'm happy with it pending the arches.

The pictures dont really do it justice tbf...they look beastly.

Mistakes will be made and corrected, things will break and be repaired...thats the beauty of modding

 i was asking about aesthetics vs drive-ability. not if would rub...I know it does already. 

My opinion is!, aesthetically it doesn't quite look right because the wheels poke to far out in relation to your ride height. If you dropped the height 30 to 40 mm the would look superb. Only then in my opinion would the trade off for cool looks be worth it vs the sh*t driving characteristics of 4 very heavy wheels. To get them set up with a decent drop is going to cost you big time so ultimately the answer, in my opinion is, sell the wheels and tyres put 18s back on with the correct offset then spend the cash on lowering it with some spacers.
18's with the stance spot on look a whole lot better than 19's looking slightly odd, and you get your nice handling car back.

In my opinion is, sell the wheels and tyres put 18s back on with the correct offset then spend the cash on lowering it with some spacers.
18's with the stance spot on look a whole lot better than 19's looking slightly odd, and you get your nice handling car back.
