In my opinion is, sell the wheels and tyres put 18s back on with the correct offset then spend the cash on lowering it with some spacers.
18's with the stance spot on look a whole lot better than 19's looking slightly odd, and you get your nice handling car back.

Common Sense is the BEST THING IN THE WORLD.

Top Cat: Will probly go back to 18's

N8KOW: useful post!?  :congrats:

I wasnt trying to be funny in anyway, i have been there and wear many of the T-shirts. I did the research and still went and bought 8.5inch wheels with 45offset.  I then had to buy another set of camber adjust coils when my KW V2's were only a few months old.

Hi Eddie, sounds like your not keen on how the new wheels make the car handle, is that correct?

Down to personal choice at the end of the day. But 19' can be a little big for the mk5 if tyre/offset combo isn't correct. 235/40's a little big really, 225/35's would be better, but understand have just bought them so don't want to change the tyres. Do you still have the 18's? If so you could quickly put them back on and go for a drive, if you prefer how car handles/feels then I think your mind has been made up for you.

Could even weigh both wheels, be surprised how much difference that makes to how are car goes, turns and stops. I went from Monzas to TD Pro Race and noticed a difference.

Could always sell the 19's, might lose a little money, but your be happier in the long run.

The looks of a wheel plays a massive part, but how the car handles on a daily basis far more important as you have to live with it.

I personally felt your car looked great on the 18's. Maybe some BBS VZ instead.

Si

In addition to above, is 235/40/19 correct as usually the correct fitment should be  235/35/19 to keep the rolling circumference as close as possible to standard.

putting michelin super sports all the way round wasnt cheap...so think i'll waiting to change the tyres when they get to 4mm - thankyou though

The above post is important and it doesn't seem like you are noticing what he is trying to say. 225/40/18 is normally swapped for 235/35/19 when increasing alloy wheel size. Going for 235/40/19 tyres will only add to the rubbing on the arches, and will throw your speedometer out more. The post bacillus made was simply asking if you made a typo and meant to say you had went from 225/40/18 to 235/35/19 rather than what you have posted,"...changed from 225/35/18 to 235/40/19".

Confused yet?

^^^^ But you always say that!

I've not met anyone yet in Mk5 Golf with 8.5" ET45 who's lowered and doesn't rub like the thighs on a fat whore.

Eddie, they would look good if/when your lowered but there is too much poke there for that, they must be (as Jay says) ET35 ish If they're only 8". 19" Monza's look the nuts with the right drop, look at Monte's Eddy on them, perfect stance.

Good luck with whichever way you go.

Well you've met one?

My mercedes are 18x8.5 et44....
Rarely rarely used to catch, only when for example bumping up a mini roundabout at near to full lock.

Didn't even have rolled arches at the time. I was around 23" FTG as well, you won't really find many people lower than that.

I think before the years out i would of changed the wheels again...wheels stand me at just short or £1,600 which when you work it out is cheap for what they are...and I had to ask a few favours from people lol

erm yes lol

You state you have 235/40/19 tyres. The norm is to go for 235/35/19 tyres. Simples. And it may help (a tiny amount) with the tyres catching the arches.  :happy2:

With Valentines, anniversary, youngest childs birthday all next month...It might be a while yet to replace them I will definately consider it for the future though and your help and knowledge is really appreciated. I might change the set up again back to 18's when they get to 4mm if the v3's dont cure the problem this weekend.
