Top Cat: Will probly go back to 18's

N8KOW: useful post!?  :congrats:

My post wasn't, but I was demonstrating that Top's Cat was spot on and common sense never goes a miss.

With wheels you can't have your cake and eat it. You should either aim for 'Go' or 'Show'. I've had both. My A3 was a nice looking diesel and ran 19"/20"s with air. I would run 19x8.5 or 19x9 (215/35/19) or 20x8.5 or 20x9 (225/30/20). The skinnier a tyre you run, the more clearance you'll have = less rubbing. Although I think the A3 8P's arches are slightly wider than the Mk5, even though it's the "same car". You can run the car lower with mega looks BUT ride quality goes out the window, certainly with cheap rubber anyway.

So the "show" approach has gone out of the window now I've got myself an ED30. A quick car IMO should have proper size tyres if you want to drive it "properly", I'm running Pescaras with 225/40s and the ride quality is sublime. I was going to get 19" CHs, but I'm just going to stick with what I've got and eventually add V3s, I won't bother with spacers either

You can pretty much fit any tyre on any width of wheel you want...

Yes, 8J wheels and 225 wide tyres fit together very nicely. No stretch per se but just a 'right' fit. Very useful for wheels with an offset that is close to the bone.

You can pretty much fit any tyre on any width of wheel you want...

Ask and you shall see... TyreStretch

I don't see why people hate on 19's so much, they look ten times better.
I had  215/34/19 ( stretch) I didn't rub at all, only if I was going full look which was only rubbing slightly.

It's my fourth set of 19x8.5 and I don't see the issue

Very interesting points made here as I have considered 19's for my Jetta. I just missed out on swapping my Charlestons for some Porsche 19's like Awful-truth had.

Mk5 Jetta 2.0l Tdi 140 se Apex RDX coilovers, BBS VZ003, Skyline tails, Genuine Xenons more to come

My 19" wheels are going to be a pain to fit though I think.. 9x19  Et53 but with a Pcd adapter of 15mm so final et of 38... I'm going to try two wheels on in a minute without tyres to give me an idea

Bought them off gumtree. They'd literally been on there for 30 seconds the guy said. Was just a fluke...there up for sale now on the forum.
