Day to day scraping with coilovers

Hi,

I'm close to taking the plunge and ordering a set of H&R monotubes but I'm torn between the standard and ultralows. I know there's only really 10mm between both sets' 'highest' ride height (although the ability to drop the rear further is the main reason I'm pondering the ultralows) but has anyone with a 40 or 50mm drop had any issues with scraping the front end etc on speed bumps or driveways etc etc??

I've had a search on the forums but nothing came about which really answered my question so I'd be really appreciative if anyone who's lowered their car could provide a bit of an insight into their experiences with certain ride heights.

40mm you will be fine, 50 mm may cause you to scrape but should be fine if you approach the speed bumps correctly and slow

Thanks man, its crazy how much 10mm can make you think about something like that! Just the front splitter sits relatively low already, just the arch gap (esp at the rear) which get me. If only I could get a 40mm drop at the front and ultralows for the rear!

First of all if you are just wanting to lower your car you don't need Ultralows at all..
Normal coilovers will get you low.

Around 60mm lower than standard will be fine day to day apart from over HUGE bumps.

XJAY1337 you make a pretty good point tbf. Likelihood of dropping the rear more than 60mm on the standards would be pretty slim anyways... Might be best just to stick with the standards then.... the 20mm to play with on both front and rear should be enough to get a nice enough stance too! Thanks for the input!

This is just part and parcel of owning a lowered car.

If you can't really park up against a curb without scuffing it probably best to not lower the car

It's the missus that can't park, honest [cough]...hence my standard ride height.

Actually I had a look the other day when I parked at footy with the nose over the kerb-there was only about 10-15mm clearance. I would be buying a new front splitter every week if I "woz lowerd" (One speaks not the Queen's when one fits coilovers apparently...)
