Misfire developed after driving through puddle!
« on: February 15, 2014, 02:54:09 pm »
Just wondered if anybody else has had any issues with coil packs or plugs getting wet?? Driving in wet conditions.
Was out in my car before driving down some very wet country lanes!! With lots of puddles car developed a misfire which slowed me down to about a maximum speed  of around 30mph.
Engine light come on then started flashing intermittently.
Not had a code reader put on it yet as i dont have one!
But guessing its coils or plugs?
Ive read that vw are common for coil packs but could it be they just got wet? Or just a coincidence that the coil pack has failed and it just happened to be lagging it
Down!
Ive had a misfire before when i first got the car, i jet washed my engine bay. But that went away later that day and car has been fine since.

Have you checked the air box incase there is any water in there. I very much doubt there will be BUT check just in case.

Also consider getting the car scanned - if you don't have VCDS, find a member who does http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,120.0.html
