Is someone trying to steal my Edition 30 side skirts?
« on: January 31, 2014, 08:30:08 am »
Washing my car yesterday, I noticed that my side skirts are a bit loose at the back. How are they attached at the rear? Is it just a case of getting some tiger seal and sticking them up? Or should there be a screw in the back of them?

 :scared: :scared: :scared:

Iirc there's 3 screws underneath along the sill (front middle and rear), then along the top edge is an adhesive tape of some description

Make sure all the fixings are in place, but use proper 3m trim tape. Dont put tiger seal or silicone (no more nails) on.

One of mine had a bit of play in it TBH Rich, noticed similar things.

That said, I never put two and two together to think that it could have been someone trying to pinch them  :scared: :surprised: :fighting:

Rear tabs can't be fixed AFAIK. One of mine broke and had a quote to replace it. Pissed myself laughing when they told me the price.

As long as the other fixing points are ok you'll be fine. Each skirt is held on by a bracket, screws and some tape stuff.

^^^^ I had a quote from my local VW Dealer for £450 ish for removal of old skirt, fitting of new one and painting. Obviously I said "where do I sign!" The muppets.

There is absolutely no difference between a GTI skirt and an ED30 skirt aside from the fact the ED30 one is painted. Same for the R32.

So - buy a GTI one and have it painted.

Well... youd need to sand them to get rid of the texture.. but yes it would still work out cheaper!  :happy2:

I think you should leave them textured, wouldn't see the difference either way!  :booty:

doesn't the R32 one have a vertical line going down part of it? Am sure big_al had it on his car.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.
