New Car Battery Advice
« on: February 03, 2014, 06:19:11 pm »
I think my battery is on its way out. Cold starting always seems to take one "extra turn"

Ive been recommend the Bosch S5 007. Which is the best OEM fit (i.e. not small/compact type) battery to get?

Thanks

Rich

Bosch from Carparts4less is cheap.  I either use the Bosch or Exide batteries.

Bosch & Varta are essentially the same battery. Two different companies sharing technology and suchlike, but both producing a battery which is basically the same (in the same way a Mazda 2 is a Ford Fiesta).
Sarcasm for free. Anything after that can only be considered as a bonus.

Just because you think you know something, doesn't make you an expert if you've just read it on the internet, y'know.

Technically there is no Bosch S5 battery for the Golf Mk5 platform.

I wanted an uprated battery due to my compressors and audio set up (so high drain on battery) and we tested a few out and found the Bosch S5 007 fitted a Golf Mk5 (despite being reportedly about 7cm longer than the stock battery).

It fitted fine.

It is a 750cca battery with 74ah and of course the 5 year battery. Probably little in it compared to similar Varta units. Bosch is just a nice name to have. Looks a bit nicer when you lift the bonnet and remove the battery tray.  :surprised:

Varta is a good brand, their premium batteries uses the same PowerFrame grid technology that Bosch uses in their batteries so you shouldn't have any issues with them.

I've been dancing around the subject of getting a new battery for the Ed30 also.

The Bosch S5007 is available at Euro Car Parts:

http://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/c/Volkswagen_Golf_2.0_2008/p/car-parts/car-electrics-and-car-lighting/electrical/car-battery/?444771008&1&8f96f9ccd393a20f649ceebf331113401c43f23f&000020

RRP is £116.40 delivered. Use Voucher Code "feb25" which brings it down to £87.30 delivered

Over at Carparts4less: http://www.carparts4less.co.uk/cp4l/c/Volkswagen_Golf_2.0_2008/p/car-parts/car-electrics-and-car-lighting/electrical/car-battery/?444771008&1&2297c3759cdb44dabee13b9fa74c9bd13c14aa0f&000020  £86.99 delivered.

[UPDATE] Use discount code "SAVEME75" to bring this down to £80.47 delivered  :happy2:

Hope this helps

Rich
