Rust! What are my chances?
« on: February 04, 2014, 08:52:31 pm »
Gave the car a polish over the weekend and notices a bit of bubbling on the bonnet and rust around the numberplate lights and boot handle. I spoke to the warranty chappy at my local stealers and he said he really needs to see the area's in question. He is calling me back tomorrow to book a time for saturday.
The bonnet is bubbling approx 5-7mm in diameter on the headlight edge, difficult to photo.
The numberplate lights and boot handle are far easier to see.

So what are my chances of getting these rectified under the paint warranty as neither area has rusted from the outside in?

Paint was starting to bubble on the bonnet of my Jetta last year. Took it into VW and had it looked at, got a call a few weeks later to take it in 100% covered. When I dropped it off they were going to repair the bonnet, but when they got into it they replaced it. While they were doing it, I had a brand new Golf 1.6 TDI Bluemotion Technologies Golf to play in.

I went to see the warranty chap this morning at my local stealer, it took him nearly 15 minutes to check the car with a manual micron meter to check the paint depth. Car was on average 100-150. Not sure if this is good or not?
He will send off his report with pictures (taken with his iPhone) and let me know in acuple of weeks.

I chased up my VW dealer about the rust today. I had the typical response from the dealer that VW will contribute 50% of the work needed and leaving me £509 ish to pay for the work.
Not satisfied with this I thanked the warranty chap and called VW Uk, I explained my situation that the rust is coming through and not damaged paint and they are going to talk to the dealer about contributing (considering the service history and money I have spent at the dealer).
VW Uk also told me it is standard that VW Germany have a contingency budget for any paint repairs, no questions asked and will always start @ 50% of the overall repair.
VW Uk will get back to me during next week with (I hope) a better result.
