So it's not a hard and fast rule that only turbocharged cars have DMFs then. The 2.0ltr FSI doesn't have a turbo either.
Fair enough. It's obviously engines that have a reasonable amount of torque that have DMF's.
My comment about what DMF's are for still stands
Dmfs are there to provide damping from the drivetrain for REFINEMENT for the driver/passenger nothing to do with shafting gearboxes. :)
With an smf you can sometimes heae more gearbox noise or feel a harsh lness through the gearbox and clutch.
Golf mk4 1.8 20v nom turbo has a DMF..about 125bhp and similar torque.
