If you go to www.mk5golfgti.co.uk only.
Ahhh. It just needs the contents moving from the /forum folder to the root directory.
Just do a htaccess 301 redirect, as there might be more to it than just moving files to a different directory.
It would be cool if the front end had a proper website, but time is money I know.
Any ideas on what we would put there?
When we eventually upgrade we will make ww.mk5golfgti.co.uk the default and get rid of the sub directory
Personally, I'd keep the forum in its sub directory, there's no benefit to moving it and possible problems not only locally but also in SERP's (initially at least).
*UNLESS the new forum software has some nice features for creating a shiny front end..?
IF you wanted the forum to be the new front end just add a .htaccess file in the root directory with the following:
--
Redirect 301 /
http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum--
That will automatically redirect
http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/ to
http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum - it wouldn't take any time to redirect unlike a meta redirect.
This would leave you free to develop (or not) a new front end with all the main things about the Mk5, could be a simple WordPress or Joomla site with some nice Graphics, sliding JScript type shizzle.
Common issues and fixes: DV's / Cam Followers / Rusty wheel arches
Frequently Asked Questions: possibly link into forum
Model Line UP: GTI / Eddy / Pirelli
Calendar of Events:Donations: Simple PP
Merchandise: Simple PP buttons, Calendar, Stickers etc.
Main Sections of the Forum: Latest Posts etc.
There maybe a mod to populate most of the above via the forum... or perhaps just via RSS to gather some of the data.
* Lots of ways of doing it, but as said I'd leave the forum in the sub directory (with 301) unless the new software has some CMS features to create a more engaging Index.
Either way, it all works and the forum is still very quick and MUCH quicker than it was before the change over to the new server, so
to all,.
