battery replacement Tag Heuer

I have a Tag Heuer - kirium I think its a good few years old 14-15 probably previously it had the battery changed and it went again a few months back, i don't really wear it but the wife took it to Beaverbrooks who sent it onto Tag for a new battery for £78. tag got back saying it needs serviced @ a cost of £228 plus the battery your having a giraffe. now they wont replace the battery without the service being done. i could understand if it was an expensive watch but a 14 year old watch? for 300notes i can get a decent watch or a discounted remap to the audi. So watch'o'philes can anyone advise if any high street shops can replace the battery without this expense or is it game over tag!

Are there not any local jewelers/watchsmiths who can do this for you? We have a local place that have been very helpful with my Citizen something-or-other

As xjay says, if you have a good local jewellers they will usually be able to replace the battery and reseal it for about £20-£25.

I have a 20+ year old SEL and gave up spending mega money on it years back. I paid a fiver to have the battery replaced last year and its still the most reliable watch I own!

Had to replace the battery in my Tag F1 couple of months back, took it to my local specialist, £30 plus seal and a polish!

^^^^ Thats about right.  Try and get a pressure test included to at least 100m too

I wasn't going to send my tissot back to Switzerland for a £80 battery change and loose the watch for 6 weeks so I just took it to H Samuels and got a new battery fitted, sealed and pressure tested for £22 - comes with a lifetime guarantee and it's insured for the value of the watch (you must keep the ticket an receipt though - I've lost both already Doh !! )

A lot of the places that pressure test can't test to the rated depth of the watch, although the assumption is that, if it tests ok at the equivalent of 50/100/whatever metres then it'll be fine to the rating and will you actually ever need the full 300m+ anyway?

I don't know how TAG can justify £228 for serving a quartz movement.

I had my Tag serviced a few years ago, like you l took it in for a battery replacement only to be told it needed a service. They replaced all the hands on mine, replaced the battery and carried out a full service for around £300. Not sure if it "needed" doing, but I love the watch and figure if it was a car I would service it every year, so every 10 years for a watch isn't too bad.
