Will I need a new DMF??
« on: February 05, 2014, 05:24:36 pm »
My clutch is slipping and I'm wondering if the dual mass flywheel will need replacing when the new clutch is fitted? The cars done 60,000miles and doesn't seem to have a problem with the flywheel as far as I'm aware(no noise or virabtion).

Cheers

I think at 60k it is false economy not changing the DMF at the same time as a clutch kit.
Used to have Edition 30 - number 009 and a GT TDI 140.
Now have an S4 B8 Avant (stage 2)

I think your right, it's gunna cost me an extra £200 but I think it's worth it, if not I'll be taking the gearbox off again in six months when the flywheel drops to bits!

The last owner of my car had an uprated clutch in that got ruined by the flywheel as it reached the end of its life, ended up replacing both.
I've always done both on my cars, you will feel better having it done I am sure.

I've just replaced my clutch at 28k and the VW specialist told me that the flywheel was fine and not to bother replacing. All depends on the mileage and how the car has been driven, if it has been tuned etc.

At 60k miles its a false economy to not replace the DMF if you are fitting a new clutch.
